Ann Arbor, MI is suffering from widespread single family property layouts, with static urban life and much reserved, unused land. CLT’s can help protect the longevity of housing for changing familial arrangements and low income situations.

The proposal for Scrap CLT densifies the properties of Ann Arbor neighborhoods and focuses on promoting a D.I.Y. approach to home maintenance and income stream.

By partnering with SCRAP Creative Reuse, a local non-profit and other recycling centers around Ann Arbor, this domicile makes collective space for families to contribute to a new status-quo of thinking. Giving scrapped domestic materials a next life, through work and construction.

What can really be done with our classically determined “waste” materials? SCRAP CLT makes multi-use spaces from materials that never really die. Materials are not meant to be disposed of after one use. Spaces are not meant to serve only one function. Not just a house, but also a public amenity.
